 Report on Onam Celebration at Navajyothi College of Teacher Education for Women, Olarikkara, Thrissur

The Onam celebration at Navajyothi College of Teacher Education for Women, Olarikkara, Thrissur, held under the theme "Armatham," was a vibrant and memorable event that showcased the rich cultural heritage of Kerala and fostered a strong sense of community among students and staff. The celebration, organized by the IQAC in collaboration with the college student union, began with the creation of an elaborate Pookalam, a traditional floral design made from a variety of flowers sourced from students' homes. This activity not only beautified the college premises but also encouraged creativity and teamwork. The centerpiece of the celebration was the Onam Sadya, a grand feast that featured an array of traditional dishes. Students played an integral role in preparing the Sadya; they actively participated in cutting vegetables, cooking, and with the help of supporting staff, prepared essential components like rice and Payasam. The college management provided full support to ensure the Sadya was well-organized and enjoyed by all attendees. The celebration was further enhanced by a series of traditional games such as Uriyadi, Vadamvali, and Sundaran Gopi Charth, which saw enthusiastic participation from both students and teachers, adding an element of fun and competition to the festivities. After the games and feast, a variety of cultural programs were presented, showcasing the diverse talents of the students and adding to the festive atmosphere. This was followed by a prize distribution ceremony to honor participants of the various competitions held during the celebration. Principal Sr. Dr. Gigi Paul delivered an inspiring Onam message, highlighting the values of unity, prosperity, and cultural heritage associated with the festival. Additionally, staff representative Sri. Amith Kumar shared his personal Onam experiences, further enriching the event with his reflections. The celebration concluded with a lively Shinkari Melam, a traditional drum performance that energized the entire gathering and provided a fitting end to the day’s festivities. Overall, the Onam celebration at Navajyothi College was a resounding success, marked by active student involvement, cultural richness, and a strong sense of camaraderie. The event not only brought together the college community but also reinforced the cultural and traditional values that Onam represents. The collaborative efforts of the IQAC, Student Union, staff, and management ensured that "Armatham" was a joyous and unforgettable occasion, reflecting the true spirit of Onam.

The celebration was held during the afternoon session in the college compound and was truly a memorable event for all of us. The highlight of the celebration was the colourful rangoli created in the portico. Students came together to design and fill in an intricate and beautiful rangoli pattern using bright colors, adding a stunning visual appeal to the surroundings. The rangoli quickly became the center of attraction, drawing admiration from everyone who passed by. The vibrant colors and detailed design symbolized the joy and diversity of Holi, making the environment lively and festive. As the celebrations progressed, students and faculty members gathered to play with colours. The spirit of togetherness and joy was clearly visible on every face. People from different backgrounds came together to share sweets ,exchange greetings, and enjoy the festival as one big family. The air was filled with laughter, music,and the sweet aroma of traditional Holi snacks. It was heartwarming to witness the spirit of camaraderie and inclusiveness that this festival promotes. One of the most interesting parts of the celebration was the representation of Holi customs from different states of India. Students prepared Simple steps from the different states to perform in the portico while playing the music . This diversity made the event both educational and enjoyable, helping everyone appreciate the rich cultural traditions that make Holi unique in every corner of the country. To further enhance the festive atmosphere, we decorated the college and classrooms with colorful elements. Handmade decorative items made using colored paper, streamers, balloons, adorned the campus. Each classroom had its own theme and students worked together to make the decorations attractive and meaningful. The entire college looked like a canvas splashed with joy and color. The celebration was not just about fun and festivity but also about coming together, embracing diversity, and creating lifelong memories. Events like this remind us of the importance of unity in diversity and the joy that lies in simple acts of celebration. Overall, the Holi celebration on March 28, 2025, was a grand success. It brought everyone closer, filled our hearts with happiness, and left us with colorful memories that we will cherish for a long time.
